About the BMI Calculator

The BMI calculator estimates whether your weight is in a healthy range for your height. Body Mass Index is a widely used screening figure that places adults into underweight, normal, overweight or obese categories.

Enter your measurements in metric (kg/cm) or imperial (lb/ft) units and the tool returns your BMI, its category, and the healthy weight range for your height.

How to use the BMI Calculator

  1. Choose metric or imperial units.
  2. Enter your height and weight.
  3. Click Calculate BMI to see your index and category.

How the calculation works

BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height (m)²

Categories: below 18.5 underweight · 18.5–24.9 normal · 25–29.9 overweight · 30 and above obese.

Example

A person who is 170 cm and 65 kg has a BMI of 22.5, which falls in the normal range.
