BMR Calculator

Find your Basal Metabolic Rate — the calories your body burns at rest — and your total daily calorie needs.

About the BMR Calculator

Your Basal Metabolic Rate is the number of calories your body burns simply to stay alive at rest. Knowing it is the starting point for any nutrition or fitness plan.

This BMR calculator uses the accurate Mifflin-St Jeor equation and then applies your activity level to estimate your total daily energy expenditure (TDEE).

How to use the BMR Calculator

  1. Select your gender and enter your age, height and weight.
  2. Choose your activity level.
  3. Click Calculate BMR to see your resting and daily calorie needs.

How the calculation works

Men: BMR = 10w + 6.25h − 5a + 5
Women: BMR = 10w + 6.25h − 5a − 161
(w = kg, h = cm, a = years)

Example

A 28-year-old man, 172 cm and 68 kg, has a BMR of about 1,617 kcal/day, or roughly 2,500 kcal at a moderate activity level.
